It's coming up fast...

Our group exhibition is coming up fast! Hannah, Tom, Mike and I walked round Bath city centre today hand delivering invitations to various galleries and other relevant businesses.
We have also created an official event page on facebook so keep your eyes peeled and be sure to come along to our Private View of 166 bpm on Tuesday the 29th March from 6pm - 9pm. There will be some food, drinks and of course lots of brilliant art from 10 emerging artists, including myself!

Labyrinth

We are doing another film night as an exhibition fund raiser. Everyone should come. It is cheap and will be a fun night. We are showing Labyrinth with the one and only David Bowie! I haven't actually ever seen it so I am looking forward to it. There will be popcorn also for you all to devour. The details can be found here on this poster that Luke designed with his own fair hand.

So, see you there!

Home Again

Went to Berlin. Came back far too soon. I truly love it there and I am determined to find a way of living there one day. I want to take some German language lessons. Although most people over there can speak pretty good English and I could probably get by, I would not feel right not being able to speak the language. It strikes me as very lazy. I actually find it really embarrassing that so many other countries can all pretty much speak English and the majority of English people (including myself I have to say) cannot speak another language. Why should they accommodate us with things like English translations next to most signs etc when we make absolutely no effort to accommodate non English speaking people in England. But anyway.
Saw lots of really interesting art (as well as some true crap). I think the more art I see the more bullshit I think some of it actually is. But on the other hand the more I see the more work I like and the more I fall in love with it. Seeing good art makes me want to create something really great but it also intimidates me because I think I will never be good enough. I don't know, I confuse myself. Basically I need to get off my ass and DO something!!

Sculpture outside of Kunsthaus Tacheles. We look cool.
I will rotate this photo at some point when I can be bothered. Right now I am going to bed.
Peace out x

BERLIN

I am going to Berlin tomorrow for a uni trip with all the lovely art people. I am so majorly excited. I actually went less than a year ago with my family and I LOVED it there and can't wait to get back!
One more sleep!
The only minor thing is, I think I may have developed the tiniest fear of flying. I am not sure why because it has never bothered me before and I have been on lots of planes. There is just something very unnatural about a great hunk of metal high up in the sky with seemingly nothing holding it up. Scary. But I am sure it will be fine. The feeling of excitement overrides this fear many many times over.
If I was a small child I would look like this right now:

Meanwhile, I need to go pack!

FINAL poster design

So here is the final design in all its glory.

We went through many many MANY different versions of this, discussing layout, colour, sizing of image, sizing of text, sizing of image in relation to text and on and on and on! But we finally got there. Hannah took it to our design tutor Matt and he gave her some useful suggestions, she did some jiggling around and produced this beauty. I'm really happy with it and so is the rest of the group is too.

After the photoshoot I did a bit of playing around with the images at home and this is the initial design I came up with:

Similar but also very different. I do like how the heart is a bit more red in this one but our final design definitely works best.

Please also note our very generous sponsors, Kemp & Kemp Property Consultants. Here is their website: http://www.kempandkemp.co.uk/
Thank you very much Kemp and Kemp!

166 bpm Exhibition Poster (initial designs!)

This was our initial poster design:

We liked it but we felt it didn't stand out enough and didn't grab people's attention, especially after we'd had a group crit with all the other exhibition groups and no one said anything about it!!
In the group crit I quickly printed out a design I had done at home over Christmas and stuck it on the wall. It immediately got some positive feedback, so we decided to completely re-do our design!
Here is the poster that I had done:

This was back when we were calling our exhibition 66 bpm and not 166 bpm. This is basically a manipulated photograph of my brother's hands which i drew a heart onto. This was the original photograph:

So from this idea we decided to go one step further. Me, Hannah, Mike, Tom, Ness and Sophie J went down to the local butchers and bought ourselves a pig heart. We then had an afternoon photoshoot with the lovely (in other words DISGUSTING) thing. When we bought it it was frozen but as the day wore on it kept getting more and more defrosted, squidgy, bloody and smelly!
Mike had the lucky job of holding the heart, I have to say I did not envy him.

We experimented with different lighting and in the end got some really good images. A successful day (minus the blood!!)
